Published by: Crestline Publishing
Recognized by their long forks and chopped frames, choppers have found new appeal among today's motorcycle enthusiasts and continue to inspire motorcycle customizers around the globe. Choppers takes a unique look at these classic pieces of twentieth century Americana. Written by experienced motorcycle writer Mike Seate, Choppers provides a comprehensive look at how choppers originated and evolved and what has fueled the current resurgence of interest in building and riding custom motorcycles. Early chapters explore the post-World War II bob job Harleys that predated the chopper. Interviews and historical photos detail the development of the chopper from its earliest days, through the outlaw longbike period of the 1960s and 1970s, to the twenty-first century chopper renaissance.

BMW K100 Series Performance Portfolio 1983 - 1993 order quantity
  +   -
NZ$ 59.95 each
Paperback
Author: Editor
Published by: Brooklands Books
The first generation of K-bikes offered unique qualities and decent performance although there was excessive engine vibration, underdamped suspension and a hyperactive final-drive. These problems were addressed in 1991 with the updated K100RS which had a 16-valve cylinder head, upgraded brakes and reworked frame and suspension. Over the years power and torque were increased and comfort was improved. The RS had serious horsepower conferred by the hot-rodded engine that went into the K1100LT. Despite this criticism sales held up well. 1992 saw another revolution with the K1100RS. This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, specification & technical data, long term reports, new model introductions. Models include: K100, K100RS, K100RT, K100LT, K100RS ABS, K1100RT, K1100LT, K1100RS, 136 pages, 350 illustrations inc colour. Soft

Ducati Desmoquattro Superbikes order quantity

Author: Ian Falloon
Published by: Motorbooks International
Ducati stunned the world in 1988 when the struggling, small Italian firm unleashed its Desmoquattro -- 8-valve, desmodromic -- Superbike. The bike found success on the worlds racetracks right from the start. Road-going versions soon carried that success to the general public, proving this design wasnt just another noisy prototype. The Superbikes -- 748, 851, 888, 916, and 996 -- are now Ducatis best-selling machines in the United States; and the Desmoquattro engine found its way into the companys more pedestrian series such as the Monster roadster and ST4 sport-tour. This is the comprehensive volume on Ducatis ultimate performance motorcycles and replaces the out-of-print Ducati Super Bikes: 851, 888, 916

Suzuki GSX-R750 Performance Portfolio 1985-1996 order quantity
  +   -
NZ$ 59.95 each
Paperback
Author: Editor
Published by: Brooklands Books
The GSX-R750 weighed in at 20% less than the GS750. An uncompromising street-legal racer the oil-cooled, lightweight engine is mated to a hydraulic clutch and six-speed gearbox. The 1988 J-model retained the essence of the original whilst being more efficient. The bore was increased to 73mm and it has larger inlet valves. The smaller crank gives a stronger bottom end. Aerodynamics improved the high-speed road holding. 1992 saw the introduction of the watercooled DOHC 16 valve 750 in addition to a newly designed frame. Performance was not noticeably higher. Small refinements were made over the years, some good, some not so good but overall in the right direction.Weight was gained, but in 1996 it was reduced by 44 pounds. The new short stroke engine was compact & surrounded by a big-beam perimeter frame. This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, specifications and technical data, rider’s impressions, long term reports, ... more

In the global culture of the motorcycle, BMW occupies a unique place. As a brand, it is the envy of even Harley-Davidson. It stands for a subtle balance of high quality, utmost reliability, supreme comfort, the best of German engineering, exquisite taste, and a breadth and depth of being hip from Rodeo Drive to Manchuria. Moreover, it's Europe's largest and most successful motorcycle by a measure. For the past few years it's best selling models, by far, are those from the GS series - the subject of this book. GS is the abbreviation for Gelandsport - off-road. Strictly speaking most GS models are capable on-road and off-road and are more frequently, today, being described as 'adventure motorcycles'. What is certain is that the vast majority of the best selling GS model, the current 1200 boxer twin, are used on-road! This is a catalogue of all GS models - a translation of the best-selling "German, Faszination BMW GS" and now in its fifth ... more
